Welcome to the Circus is Cal Medforth’s latest, most daring exhibition, born from a recent odyssey through Asia. This collection offers a searing commentary on the chaotic, violent, and increasingly disconnected world we live in. In a playful way, Medforth’s art subtly explores pervasive themes of bondage, facism and the eerie weirdness that has become a hallmark of our times. The works also reflect on the masks we wear every day, slowly turning us into strangers to one another in a world that seems to grow colder and more bizarre.
Crafted in the rich cultural milieu of India, these mixed media paintings are a fusion of emulsion, spray paint, acrylic, oil pastels, and charcoal. Each piece pulsates with a raw energy that draws the viewer into a world where the boundaries between reality and madness are constantly shifting. This exhibition invites you to step into a circus where the bizarre is normal, the violent is routine, and the masks we wear are the only things holding us together—yet they’re also what keep us apart.
